You were into GNU/Linux..so you would find your way in and out(thats what happened in your case)<br><br>No list would help some1 not into it<br><br>I still stress my point; there must be a business model so that GNU is injected to us eventhough we dont need it /really lookout for it and a nice outlet for that is the people who buy a PC for the first time and of course young children at schools and colleges<br>

Well, first of all, lemme say that i am not a Programmer in GNU/Linux. Rather i am a day to day desktop user. So i am talking from a common man's point of view. What Mr. Madhu kannan has mentioned is absolutely correct.<br>
<br> As far as i have seen, when i was starting to use GNU/Linux for the first time, ie in my early days, the major problem that i was facing is to find out Alternative softwares for the different applications i was using in Windows. It was exactly for this reason that i came to ILUG. And happy to
say that i was able to find them. But not all the people out there are so lucky. <br><br> Well, and when it came to finding the applications, the job got more tougher for me. It was like i dint know what to choose!!!... when all was working, something else screwed up!!. So actually, it took me some time to choose what all applications i need to use and now, i am happy that i can do almost all the things i can do in windows in Linux. I am also a singer, so audio editing is something that i have to do all the time. And i found out perfect solutions to all the problems.<br>
I strongly believe it is this information that we need to pass over, rather than all the ethics we follow!!... That i believe is the only way we can make this happen, not just in Kerala, but the whole of India and i believe its possible.<br>
<br> Although, these were the problems that i faced, there would have been other issues too. But
majority of the cases, any new user (who is a normal day to day windows user) checks whether he/she is able to play all those mp3 files when they click it. Since almost all the modern Linux are equipped to handle and mount popular partitions (like NTFS, FAT etc..), such an issue is no longer existing. But when i came into this "world" for the first time, i had faced this problem. Because, i dint even know what mounting was!!!!! and as a matter of fact, no normal user will ever actually care what it means after all. For my case, i was fortunately a computer science student with some enthusiasm for these kind of things. <br>
<br> Another very significant point is the over all quality of the softwares that Freedom Software community gives. This is effected the worst when it comes to professional users. No one will want their application to malfunction when they are doing some important job. And the truth is, there are only really very few
applications that are trust worthy for professional use (especially in the Multimedia section). The reason why i am again and again stressing on the multimedia section is because, it is this sole thing that can actually help us to make Linux popular. But ofcourse, i do agree to the fact that we have released some of the best softwares the world has seen. For example, our one and only Firefox browser, Audacity is great, and the most superb project of all, compiz!. Every windows user will just go FLAT when they see compiz alone. So all this proves to one point...WE CAN DO IT. Its just that the community is not organized enough to deliver that quality to the public. But we sure do have the talent with us which is 10 or 20 times better than those at Microsoft. <br>
<br> And something that definitely needs to be mentioned... is our Linux OS as such!. The awesomest thing i have ever came across ;). We have the strongest kernles,
best of the User Interfaces and we have suceeded so far in beating our competitors at this and to be mentioned, has taken Linux into a turbo charge. And now, we need to make our codes even better. Make the applications to work more perfectly out of the box. This will again drastically improve the acceptance of freedom software thorough out. <br>
<br> Ofcourse, another important thing is that we need to educate the people out there about what we are, what we can give them and that..we have the ability to do whatever they want to do using a computer. And yes... the shell (although is the most powerfull user interface in GNU/Linux) is the most feared and most disliked by the common user. He just hates to type in commands ( i used to, but i dont now :D). So we need to remove that fear from them. But before that, we need to show them our wide variety of User Interfaces. And then, we will teach them how to tame this awesome and
beautiful beast.<br><br> And as usual, campaigns, presentations, seminars etc will be required to make people aware (which is actually a bit costly affair, so need not always be done). We should succeed in generating enquiries to us, which we should be able to convince the person about the advantages that he/she is going to get. And full moral and ground support to this enquired person will help the person to generate confidence in the Softwares and thus will prompt him to one day or the other, switch completely to Freedom software.<br>
<br> I am extremely sorry that i made this mail so huge. But i couldnt help it :D. Actually there are a few more points to be discussed on this matter. I am not sure whether i will be able to attend the meeting. Will try my best to do so. <br>
