Dear friends,

I'm receiving several mails telling "Ericcson is distributing free laptop" or "Microsoft is testing your fortune" or "Yahoo is giving.........." etc. The mail tells the receiver to forward to max. no: of people and make a cc to anna@ericcson.com. I remember Salimkumar's dialogue in a malayalam film when seeing this. I usually send a mail to everyone in the receivers list with a subject "Salimkumar is distributing free biriyani", explaining nothing is free in this world. But what use...I am still recieving this type of mails. These mails are circulating since 1999, when I started using internet.
I know several students who gets 1 hour in a week for surfing internet. They spend the whole time playing with orkut. The young generation is not aware of the real potential of internet. They use it for sending spam mails and in orkut. Ofcourse, elder people are doing this, but it is of no use to educate those people. A huge share of the bandwidth available is spoiled by this type of thousands of useless mails. Forwarded mails constitute 90% of this. So it is essential to make awareness of ethical practices of internet usage, atleast in young generation.

So when we talk about ethics of software, this can also be told

Regards

Anoop Viswanath
