as far as i know there are active chapters of csi in trivandrum and kochi.<br>

the issues regarding students is<br>
<br>
how many are genuinely interested in doing projects? may be 25% in a class.<br>
<br>
knowledge of students in programming will be limited when they are in college only after they get out will they understand better ( this is the case with all courses) by the time the project time is over.<br>

the top priority of students is to score well in their exam. ( cut off to get into a company)<br>
<br>
in any case if they get into a company the company trains them.<br>

so that they are convinced of the scope of the project<br>
and how it can do good<br>
to the student, college and most important the<br>
"Community".<br>
- Once projects are completed they are uploaded to the<br>
website and also<br>
are presented and spoken of at events and Community<br>
group meetings<br>
(like ILUG Cochin), and the project will develop wings.<br>
- This will serve as an example and lesson for the<br>
other students as well<br>
and then we have a whole lot of useful software<br>
created by the students<br>
for the community.<br>
<br>
- The Web page also needs information from the normal<br>
users and business<br>
people, so that they can put in their requirements<br>
into the page so that<br>
it becomes " a self sustaining community".<br>
<br>
- Finally let us begin upon, and reiterate on what is<br>
the aim of an<br>
academic project in our society and again " the free<br>
software community".<br>
Many times students do not know what path they need to<br>
take to create<br>
something useful for the society.<br>
<br>
We need to draft an open letter to all educational<br>
institutions<br>
which states what an academic projects means to the<br>
society and how<br>
important is the freedom for students to pursue their<br>
own interests and how<br>
they can guide them to the right path.<br>
<br>
There are lot of teachers and academicians in the<br>
Mailing List. I believe<br>
we can get lot of information from them. :)<br>
