Well, I'm not a devil's advocate on these, the fact is, one who evaluate your project is not from IEEE or ILUG, but these 'ill-equipped' people around there, who may not understand neither a web application or a sophisticated engineering design but want to take pride on these 'non-digestible' terms to common people. These people are less likely to change by the intervention of community, better do not waste our time and energy on these. If you are serious on doing something, do it and publish it for community, I'm sure millions of genuine people will be more than happy to help you, and spread the word on campus so more students will join.

Only the younger generation can adopt change, let me stress, we cannot make the changes to institutions that easily, it will happen only with time.

Thanks,
-Bijoy

On Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 12:15 AM, Deepu Joseph <deepu.joseph1@gmail.com> wrote:

If ILUG plans to take up this issue, then I suggest along with
contacting the various colleges, we also need to contact the IEEE LiNK,
which is a highly-organised body that coordinates IEEE student activities in Kerala. ( http://www.ieee-link.org/portal/ )
I'll be attending the IEEE Kerala section's Silver Jubilee celebrations next week at Malapuram. I'll try to bring up the subject there if someone can give me an idea on how strictly colleges are insisting on these "IEEE projects". Also can someone list these colleges? I'll speak to their IEEE representatives.
An IEEE project is the implementation of an already published IEEE paper. How many teachers in kerala are capable of guiding students for such a project.

How many can do the much under estimated web app ?

Could someone throw some light as to what these "IEEE Projects" are? Are they projects based on some paper already published by someone on IEEE? Or does the IEEE lay down any specifications regarding what a student project should be?

Thankfully, my college doesn't have any such conditions, and part of my project is indeed in PHP. Besides, the IEEE student branch at our college has been actively working towards the promotion of free and open source software.
